NR Slam,
i am flying on KLM next week, just wondering if the halal meal option is available, as the KLM website says Muslim Meal means (pork and by product of pork and alcohol) my confusion is that they are not mentioning Gelatin (an essential part of cooking) i.e. what is source of deriving gelatin.
any thoughts??? Posted on August 11, 2014 |

NR I asked KLM this:
you right about Muslim meal: does not contain pork, by-products of pork or food containing alcohol. All meats come from ritually slaughtered animals.
My question is? How can i verefy the autantithy . Where do you get the meat from, is there an oficial muslim part in Amsterdam who can confirm it. Thank you.

KLM response:
We thank you for your e-mail.
Meals are handled by KLM itself and products are ordered from first-choice product handlers in the Netherlands.

★★★☆☆ had a choice of cheese or turkey sandwiches, chose cheese, you cant really trust airlines from non muslim countries as halal/haraam does not mean anything to them. Posted on December 1, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ KLIA-Amsterdam, doubt the halalness because although the stewardess seem to note the 'muslim meal' request, the meal given was identical to the non-muslim beside me. Not any label whatsoever to clear my doubts. I only drink juices and plain water given troughout the flight. Same goes to KLM domestic flight. Posted on November 5, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ LAX-AMS flight.
Ughhh!! Awful. They think that halal means Indian food only. Breakfast was HORRID rice affair that tasted like cardboard. Ordering veggie next time..or sneaking my own food onto the plane!! Posted on March 10, 2007 |

NR Dubai-Toronto via Amsterdam. Flight from Dubai to AMS only - Halal meat since the caterers are Emirates Caterers, part of Emirates group. But the flight from AMS to Toronto and back - doubtful. Prefer veg meal. Posted on November 21, 2006 |

NR I don't think that the meal served is totally halal what about the bread served? There is always whey or whey powder or E471-472or 476 in them. They may serve vegetarian meals but they don't have vegetarian bread. Within 2 weeks I flew 6 times with KLM without eating anything. Posted on July 31, 2006 |

★★★☆☆ Cape Town-Amsterdam-Houston roundtrip. Food was pretty average, nothing spectacular. Service wasn't too bad. Posted on March 30, 2006 |

★★★☆☆ Kuala Lumpur-Ams-Houston. The food they gave was vegetarian, and another meal was chicken. I have some doubts regarding the halalness of the food, as there was a label on the pack saying, Moslem Meal-no pork. So maybe they thought Muslim Meal=no pork, the chicken n beef might not be zabihah. Should request for vegetarian meals. The food was not really tasty and the service was not very friendly. ★★★★☆ I prefer to order Asian Vegetarian. For airline food I found it good. The service from Toronto to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to Cape Town was super. The crew was helpful. Water and juice was delivered frequently. I plan to fly KLM as much as I can. Posted on October 6, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ I normally request vegetarian meals. However, on my KLM flight, at various times, the flight staff couldn't locate the meals for either the meat-eating Hindu sitting behind me nor for me. For one snack, the staff couldn't find my vegetarian sandwich (although there was one available for my husband) so the stewardess gave me a halal turkey sandwich -- "you can eat that." I realize she was trying to make the best of a bad situation, but neither of us care for turkey...and this is partially why I ordered a vegetarian meal to begin with. Another reminder of why one cannot have too many snacks, especially on international flights. Posted on October 3, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ Detroit-Ams-Dhahran. Long flight, subpar service, meal was bland. Posted on August 24, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ AMS - HOUSTON flight. Halal food served here is for vegetarians - chickpeas, bread bun and the lot. If you have to use KLM, ask for vegetarian meal rather than muslim/halal food. These people dont know what halal food is, being ignorant is not an issue here and I dont expect to every one in the Europe knows what hallal means. So my advise is try to have a vegetarian meal when you are on non-Muslim airlines. Pls note that there is one airline from the South-East Asia that serves NO ALCOHOL and only HALAL food served -Royal Brunei Airlines. Downside though is this airline travel within the region and to Frankfurt, London, Abu Dhabi & Australasia en route Calcutta, Dubai, Singapore. I understand from friends who work and live in Brunei - Bruneians and Malaysians (MOST!) are very particular with halalness of their food. Posted on July 2, 2004 |

★★☆☆☆ LAX-AMS flight. Food was not very good in my opinion. I don't think the LA-based catering company has any idea that muslims eat meat because the in-flight meal was all vegetarian and I KNOW the L.A. area has some good Halal places. Posted on December 26, 2003 |
