HALAL SUMMARY
A halal sign is clearly visible on the premises of this restaurant.
★★★★★ This is a take-out Middle Eastern sweet shop located amongst the Arab stores, restaurants, and cafes on Steinway Street in Astoria, Queens. Parking is difficult but not impossible on Steinway or nearby streets, but leave the Ford GT40 at home.
This reviewer tried the various baklava ($15/pound, 1/2 pound is enough for 2-3 people to share), which were among the best he has had. Notably, tangerine Schweppes is also available at this fine establishment.
A great place to get a box of baklava to take home. Posted on June 14, 2015
★★★★★ The best middle eastern baklava I found in New York.
The workers there are very honest people and cooperative, prices are reasonable for the excellent quality of product that they have. Posted on November 23, 2011
★★★★★ I was satisfied with the sweets at the other bakery down the street so it never occurred to me to try this place. Then one night I was at the mosque and I really wanted some baklava so I decided to run across the street to Al Sham. Wow! My mouth is watering right now just thinking about the pastries. I got some ata'if ) both the cheese and nuts variety. I also got something else that I thought was baklawa but when I bit into it, it was this amazing cream filling, a happy accident for sure because I think I like it better than baklawa. Of all the Middle Eastern bakeries, this one is my favorite! Posted on August 16, 2011
