★★★☆☆ Always puzzled me why there is only one halal Nandos in all of Birmingham given that there are probably more Muslims there than most other cities in the UK. I wrote to them and their reply was unclear but talked about proximity to other Nandos and supply chain. I didn't think they were being completely honest.
Anyway, so this branch in Star City is quite amusing because it is around 95% full of asians all dressed like they are going to a wedding. I'm not kidding, the whole of Star City is like this of an evening. Tons of asians all dressed up in their wedding gear for a night out at Nandos. Quite hilarious actually.
But as for the restaurant - well this is no different to any other 'halal' Nandos in the UK in my opinion. They still serve alcohol and they still use stunned chicken. Additionally they still argue about whether your NHS card gives you 20% discount on the entire order or just on a selected item or two - really no consistency, but broadly in-line with the inconsistency at all other Nandos branches elsewhere.
The food is fine. The atmosphere is fine. The wedding gear on display everywhere is fine.
Prices could be better, especially for the burgers.
Overall, this is an average place and gets a 3 out of 5 from me. Posted on November 29, 2013 |

★★★★★ I'm addicted to Nandos because it always hits the spot, its different than having the same old boring indian cuisine we get almost anywhere. Only complaint is the alcohol being served, I do hope they stop serving alcohol one day. Posted on August 15, 2010 |

NR Nandos is a South African company and in South Africa all halal Nandos refrain from selling alcohol.I personally sat in meetings with the Nandos international department in Cape Town and listened in on their thinking as far as muslim customers are concerned, Nandos fully understands the psych of muslim customers and the impression i left with is that nandos wopuld never sell alcohol in a halaal store so i do think in UK it shouldn be taken for granted that Nandos stores are halaal by heresay, muslims there should really exhaust all options when finding out. The food is great and its possible to get it 100% halaal so why not make the effort. Posted on July 1, 2008 |

★★★★★ I do like nandos me and my husband are addicted to it. We visit the coventry one as its better laid out that starcity and the staff are so much more helpful. This thing about halal or harram I dont know as it says in the window and on menu that its halal, and the place is full of hijabi sisters??? but the alcohol part I totally agree with so I think we r going to have to find another place to hang out it....
keep up the good work every1 this is so gr8 and useful.. Posted on January 18, 2006 |

★★★★★ Nando's is nice and halal, to be totally frank i would rather trust nando when they say they are halal, rather than the many non-praying muslims in the birmingham area, that actually buy their meat from non-muslim butchers and claim to be halal! Posted on December 16, 2004 |

★★☆☆☆ I went to the Nandos at Trafford when I was visiting the UK from the US. The food was alright. I thought it was way too expensive for the amount and quality though. Posted on November 10, 2004 |

★★★☆☆ Asalaam Alaikum. First of all, many of you are questioning the reliability of Nandos chicken being halal based on the fact that thy sell alcohol. However, think of the business they would lose if they didn't!!!! In the same way that we, as Muslims, choose where we eat based on the food being halal/haram, many Non Muslims choose where they eat based on whether they can have a drink or five with their meal. So the fact that ANYWHERE may sell alcohol could simply be a business decision, (I'm not agreeing with it I am just pointing it out). Nevertheless, I no longer eat at Nandos, as there have been speculations that the chicken is haram, and if you have any doubt about ANYTHING being haram then it is in your best interest to abstain from that thing. Jazakallah Posted on October 7, 2004 |

★☆☆☆☆ QUESTION: If we visit any Muslim and he offers some food to eat, but we don't know that the food is halal or not. Can we avoid eating if we have a doubt of halal and haram?
ANSWER: The ruling will depend on the extent of the doubt. If one is almost certain that a certain Muslim does not know the correct concept of Halaal and is not sensitive to Halaal and Haraam, then that is a sound reason to abstain from eating such foods offered by him which is doubtful, for example, meat, etc.
In such a situation, one should apply his discretion and adopt wisdom and
diplomacy in his approach, probably, by eating only the non-meat dish. The
friendship may also be used as an opportunity to advise the person of Shari'ah, Halaal and Haraam.

★★★☆☆ Assalamu alaikum.Nando's is a South African company and in south Africa all the Nando's branches are certified Halaal, these branches however do not sell alcohol. There are also halaal Nando's Branches in Islamic countries like Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Why not check out www.nandos.com to see if the UK branches are halaal. Posted on April 21, 2004 |

★★★☆☆ I'm stll no closer to knowing if Namndos is serving halal chicken....but i have been told that the chicken supplier for nandos is the same as for many halal chicken outlets in the nearby Alum Rock area...which are muslim run. Posted on March 24, 2004 |

★★★★☆ well i have eaten at many nando's...the starcity branch is probably the worst offender for small portions a bad layout and unattentive staff......i usually find the old trafford branch a more agreeable affair.
However reading the below comments I feel compelled to put my crave of peri peri on hold and ascertain whether nando's serves halal chicken. As for the fact that they serve alcohol....most restaurants do.....thankfully the drinks are in different glasses to soft drinks.Nandos is around in pk too having a branch in Khi.....they don't claim to be a halal restaurant....it's enough for me if the chicken is halal.Afterall most of us eat at Mac D's....pizza hut etc....we go for vege option but they serve haram meats and drinks too. But we must verify that the chicken is halal at nandos. Posted on March 2, 2004 |

★☆☆☆☆ Please brothers and sisters in Islam, It will be very, very wrong to say that Nandos (UK) restaurants are certified halal when Nandos main suppliers of chickens are Freemans. I went to Halal conference at ICC (Islamic Cultural Centre & London Mosque) which is known as to everyone as Regent Park Mosque in London. I found out that Freemans the main suppliers of Nandos are unreliable and not halal at all. Please check with Dr Teinaz of ICC, the Health Advisor and the Halal committee of ICC. Please write to and check with Dr Yunes Teinaz PhD, the Health Advisor of ICC. The Islamic Cultural Centre, London Central Mosque, 146 Park Road, Regent Park, London NW8 7RG, England, United Kingdom. Also please check ICC website which is WWW.ICCSERVICES.ORG.UK Also check with Muslim Council of Britain Halal and Health committee, the brother in Islam you need speak to is Dr. A. Majid Katme MBBCh, DPM. His Mobile number is 07944 240 622. I think you should check with Islamic Organisations first before taking any words from restaurant chain companies that is my advice to you brothers and sisters in Islam. Posted on February 1, 2004 |

★☆☆☆☆ I have enormous doubts about Nandos. Firstly we are not sure that the chicken is Halal, can we trust them! Secondly they sell alcohol therefore the environment is unsuitable for sisters in Islam and families. It was unsuitable for me and my wife, there were too many drunks there. I was totally embarras by this. Thirdly they have branches in Israel but not one branch in the Middle Eastern countries or not any in any muslim countries which I have check on the Nandos website. It smell like a zionist company and possibly maybe big trouble head of them. We must check them out before we believe what Nandos say. Posted on February 1, 2004 |
