A halal certificate is clearly visible on the premises of this restaurant. From the management: 'Mamouns is committed to serving quality food using quality ingredients. As part of that commitment, all the meat we serve is certified halal. This means that the meat does not contain any pork or pork product (including gelatin and shortenings) and that the animal has not been treated with any antibiotics or growth hormones and has been fed a natural diet that does not contain any animal by-products. Simply stated, when eating halal meat, you know exactly what you're getting: fresh quality meat without any additives or preservatives.'

NR Verbal confirmation from employee that they do NOT serve halal meat in this branch. Only the MacDougal branch serves halal meat. Their falafel sandwich is super delicious though. Posted on July 24, 2017 |

★★★★☆ This is a halal Middle Eastern restaurant serving falafel, hummus, shawarma, kebob sandwiches and more. There is seating available indoors and outdoors for small groups (whereas there is none in the other NYC Mamoun location). Parking is tight in the East Village, so leave the 2007 Lotus Exige S in Canyon Red at home.
The fantastic lamb shawarma sandwich ($7) has thin crispy, juicy pieces of lamb served in a pita with tomatoes and lettuce. The falafel sandwich ($4) contains Mamoun's signature crispy-on-the-outside falafel in place of the lamb.
Overall another great branch of Mamoun's... just don't bring a crowd. Posted on January 8, 2017 |

★★☆☆☆ The place is not a restaurant but a hole in the wall joint with only three benches. The food was just okay and I would rate it below average. We ordered falafel and a shawarma sandwich. The sandwich was okay and the falafel were small, sub par in quality/taste and served in a small paper plate. They didn't taste anything close to an authentic delicious falafel and were kinda over fried, super dark brown in color. I wouldn't go there again cuz apart from the small and dingy shop, the food was just okay and nothing to feel special about. Oh did I mention that the person behind the counter was rude and no sense of customer service? Posted on August 10, 2014 |

★★★★★ Excellent Shawerma and falafel!! Best falafel in NYC and at a very cheap price! Only 2.50 for falafel and 5.50 for meat sandwhiches. Their lamb shawerma is to die for! Posted on February 1, 2012 |
