The staff of this restaurant has verbally confirmed halal status. From the management: 'Mamouns is committed to serving quality food using quality ingredients. As part of that commitment, all the meat we serve is certified halal. This means that the meat does not contain any pork or pork product (including gelatin and shortenings) and that the animal has not been treated with any antibiotics or growth hormones and has been fed a natural diet that does not contain any animal by-products. Simply stated, when eating halal meat, you know exactly what you're getting: fresh quality meat without any additives or preservatives.'

★★★★★ This is a hole-in-the-wall take-out halal Middle Eastern restaurant serving falafel, shawarma, kabobs, lentil soup, and more. There's no room to sit. The restaurant is located in the tight quarters of Greenwich Village, so you should probably leave the Chrysler Turbine Car at home. The falafel ($2 for 3 pieces) is above average though not exceptional. The chicken shwarma plate ($12) is excellent, though best eaten hot. NR When I arrived there I had doubt and I asked the staff there if the meats are zabihah halal. He clearly mentioned meats are not zabihah halal but they have vegetarian options. This listing should be removed from the list. Posted on April 27, 2017 |

★★★★☆ I dont know about the people who are saying it is not Halal but my friend and I asked the guy at the counter if everything is Halal and he siad Yes. Thats verbal assurance from the person behind the counter, he could have said no and i would have bought the falafel and no meat, but he knew what halal meant and he said yes.

I had asked the place across the street if they (Ali Baba Falafel) were halal and they man said no one in this district (including Mamoun's) can afford to carry halal meat so if someone is tellin you they are halal, they're not.
