From humble beginnings as a New York City hot dog cart to a world-renowned international restaurant chain, The Halal Guys story is the quintessential American Dream. The Halal Guys is defining a new, thriving segment for the restaurant industry: American Halal Food! The Halal Guys legend began in 1990, when the three founding partners opened up a hot dog cart on West 53rd & 6th Avenue in New York City. As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal. That is when the famous platter of chicken and gyro over rice was born. And let's not forget about the famous white and red sauces! Fast-forward 25 years, five carts, two New York City restaurants, and millions of diverse customers served, The Halal Guys is growing yet again. Fans no longer have to be in NYC to experience The Halal Guys as they look to share American Halal Food all over the country and the world. Added on July 19, 2016 and last updated 8 years ago

The menus at this restaurant clearly state that Halal food is served. From the management: 'The Halal Guys takes great pride in using only the highest quality, halal-certified meats. We know many of our customers like to know the sources of their food and we are happy to provide the Halal certifications for our chicken and our beef gyro. 100% halal food.'

★★★★☆ Consistent delivery of that NYC street grub, whether it's Current Avenue in SJ CA or at the Dunn Loring Metro stop near Tysons VA. The white sauce, while delish, hides a mega dose of sat fat. The red sauce is sooooo hot, you could lose a tongue! Posted on December 25, 2018 |

★★★★★ Standard but solid ‘Falafel’ restaurant food. Hot sauce is actually a bit hot, so good for me, and came on the side so my no-spice kids were happy too. Clean and quick service - same as any chain food place - but halal 👍🏼 Posted on July 9, 2018 |

★★☆☆☆ Cannot compare to the original one, this one's more commercialized version.I would rather go to Agha's in SJ downtown. Posted on November 8, 2016 |

NR Had the combo platter only choice is sandwich or plate, beef gyro or chicken. Set just like a real fast good restaurant everything packed to go. You loose a little taste with speed compared to a traditional shop. Overall food was good. Rice little under cooked meat a little bland, sauces were good. Posted on September 7, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ Happy to have The Halal Guys in San Jose (my hometown), but a little disappointed in the food. It's definitely not as good as the original food cart in NYC, which is expected since their is always a difference from cart food and restaurant food. I've been to this location a couple times as well as the one in Costa Mesa (SoCal) and one thing that I have noticed is that the rice is not properly cooked and the meat (especially the chicken) is also not properly prepared as the traditional chicken gyro meat should be, and slightly bland. That being said if you add extra white sauce (which I recommend), then it gives a better taste, than the regular plate with average white sauce would do. Also note that the red sauce is Extremely Hot! Even for Desi people it will burn your mouth, so beware! I'm hoping that once the workers at Halal Guys get more experienced the food will be better, or at least a little closer to the original one in NYC. Posted on July 20, 2016 |
