NR I have been to many Afghan places and this certainly not the best one but most pricey one I ever been to (Halal or America). Posted on October 11, 2017 |
|
|
★★★★☆ This place is overhyped and very over priced. If you want to try it, then i recommend coming for lunch as the prices start at 10.99 for the lowest lunch special compared to around $30 for dinner. An entree comes with naan, salad, lentil soup. Having said that, I tried all the meats and all types of rice. I really enjoyed the rice with orange peel. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The kababs were good and the lamb was very tender and cooked well. The quality of the meats was really good. This is probably the only authentic Afghani restaurant for miles and also located in a very rich neighborhood, decorated very well and that explains the clientele and prices. It's also BYOB alcohol. If you want better food for a much lower cost, go to Paterson. Posted on April 1, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ Very clean place with very good decor.
Service is the best.
They don't serve alcohol and I offered salah with owner Posted on April 23, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ Average food. Very expensive. Much better options available within 5 mile radius. Posted on December 31, 2014 |

★★★★★ Went to a fundraising event here. The food was actually very impressive. The place is a little dark, but the food makes up for the ambiance.
Looking at the menu it seemed on the pricey side but I wasn't disappointed with the food, especially the grill meats.
Plenty of parking is a plus Posted on July 14, 2014 |

★★★★★ Out of the world lamb chops. Save for my mom's, havent had better. Most items are excellent. Decor is amazing. Service excellent. Be prepared to shelve out though Posted on January 3, 2014 |

★★★★☆ This place is much hyped and I had to visit it when I went to NJ. First thing, I think the food is very pricey and the quantity is not great. Their naans were awesome, firni was pretty good and kabli palaw was awesome. However, Chappli kabobs were not good at all. I was also disappointed by the appetizer "Ashak". So, if you go there, TIP: don't order Chappli kabobs or Ashak. May be try lamb chops. Customer service was good and staff was very friendly. I will return when I visit NJ again. ★★★★★ My wife and I recently moved to Basking Ridge, NJ and we eat exclusively halal. This place is magnificent! The decor is beautiful, staff is friendly, and most of all the food is perfectly cooked. I recommend this place for everyone who loves grilled meats. My wife is pregnant and she has craving for this place all the time, so we try to go as often as possible :) Posted on April 12, 2013 |

★★★★★ Expensive but delicious food Posted on April 1, 2012 |

★★★★★ I haven't been to any other Afghan restaurant that has the food quality that Silk Road does. I went frequently with my family despite the restaurant's distance from my home. Mustafa and his family are awesome, and treat their customers very well. Posted on February 15, 2012 |

★★★★☆ One of the only things I miss about new jersey. I use to drive a way to go here. I remember the owner was a very soft spoken nice guy. Im glad they are doing well judging by the reviews Posted on December 26, 2011 |

★★★★★ I came here seeing the earlier reviews, Food, Service and Cleanliness are excellent. Price is truly something debatable but still it's all worth. Very courteous and hospitable environment.
Will surely come to this place if I ever visit NJ again. Posted on September 7, 2011 |

★★★★★ This place is great! The lamb chops are a MUST, so are the chicken kabobs (murgh kabob I think?). My husband ordered a Veal steak and the steak was Huge and very well marinated. Overall, we were super satisfied. The service was very welcoming and the chutneys are awesome with the food (delish white sauce!)...The decor is also beautiful and very clean, which is often (sadly) hard to find with halal places. We went first as a couple and then brought our family back! Portions are more than enough, every naan is baked fresh, and the baklava is delicious! Posted on July 19, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ I'm not sure why everyone has given this place such great reviews. The food is EXTREMELY over priced for what you're getting. Average of $18+ for a plate. Quality is a smidge above average, but quantity is NO where where it should be. Just the fact that its in Watchung with an affluent community can they get away with the price of its food. It's a good environment though. I'd recommend it ONCE just for the experience, but would personally never go back as the good quantity/quality does not justify the price. Cheaper afghan places with more and better food. Posted on July 12, 2011 |
Sorry PreppyPaki for your experience at the Silk Road, when you order you get Freshly cut salad, freshly baked bread, complimentary lentil soup along with Kabobs and bread but if the quantity isn't enough please let us know next time if you decide to visit again and one of the managers will accommodate to your needs, Have a nice day. |

★★★★☆ We stopped here while driving through NJ. This is very tastefully decorated and upscale Afghani restaurant. I ordered the Lamb Shank, which was rather bland. The Kabali Pulow was awesome. Murgh Kabab was OK. The Afghan food in New York is better. Posted on June 30, 2011 |
|
|
★★★★☆ Food was very good, but service was outstanding. Yes it is over priced but I would go back. The only reason I would not give it five stars, is because they allow alcohol on premises. Their menu does state that all meat is Halal and they do have a certificate. Posted on May 25, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ Its not alcohol free place, Lunch is priced @ $8.99 which is woth, Dinner is Over priced same qty as lunch but double the price $18.99 + . Service is Average, kabads are nice.... Posted on May 24, 2011 |

★★★★★ Well...I must say, I might be biased because I absolutely love Afghan food, but honestly, this restaurant is one of the best in central jersey.
the decor is absolutely beautiful and the family that owns the place are knowledgeable about their family recipes and the history of afghanistan. I would definitely go here if i wanted to impress family or friends... Also, the food is equally impressive, with really nicely marinated kabobs, great rices dishes and the apps are awesome. the dessert is worth saving room for, all are homemade and the baklava is among the most best I've had.
good price, good portions, delicious food, great decor and happy service. I will undoubtedly be back! Posted on April 25, 2011 |

★★★★★ Delicious food, lively atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasteful decor. Theres nothing else to look for in a good restaurant - especially with the slim pickings in nj halal food. Worth a trip, or more. They serve a nice lentil soup as a starter, along with a fresh salad. Try their chicken kabob or the lamb chops- both melt in your mouth. The chapli kabob was so-so - not something im dying to try again. Overall a great meal! Posted on March 3, 2011 |

|
★★★★☆ Ordered lamb and kofta kabab. Both were tasty. Service was pretty good. Their rice is extremely flavorful and fresh. Kababs go well with rice and hot sauce. I recommend. Posted on February 20, 2011 |

★★★★★ I have been several times with family and friends and can definitely say that this is the best Afghan food and halal food in the area. The family that owns is is very welcoming, and the restaurant itself it beautiful. Best of all, the food is delicious! Try the dumplings, Ashak or Mantu, the are definitely a favorite when it comes to appetizers. Also, the lamb kabobs and filet mignon kabobs are so well marinated and tender that I tend to get them every time I go. The desserts are all homemade and save room for the baklava! ★★★★☆ Salaam, my family and I went to this restaurant after seeing really good reviews on zabihah.com. The restaurant is hard to find but it's worth going. The restaurant is very clean with a brilliant decor and a family oriented atmosphere. The food, however, didn't exceed our expectations. The hummus was terrible and I think they can drastically improve on the afghani white sauce. The service was decent but I was surprised that we weren't asked about drinks. The lamb chops and lamb cubes were delicious as well as the boneless chicken cubes. The prices are slightly above average so dont be surprised to see the amount in the check. Overall, a decent experience. Posted on November 10, 2010 |

★★★★★ My family heard of Silk road from others and read some of the reviews on Zabihah but were a bit skeptical. So we decided to see what the "fuss" was all about and try the Silk road experience for ourselves. The food was outstanding, service was wonderful and the ambiance was exceptionally pleasant. The only negative had nothing to do with the food but the location -- it was so hard to find from the main road : it is located inside a shopping district therefore you can not find it from the main road (you have to drive into the parking lot in the back and walk to it). Other than the hard to find location, place was awesome - great blending of east and west. Price was slightly above average for halaal food eateries but worth the experience. Take your family and friends if you have a chance. Posted on July 25, 2010 |

★★★★★ This place is AWESOME! I am a big fan of afghan food; I've traveled to NYC and all over the place looking for good Afghan food, and this place definitely has it. The decorations are beautiful, the service is very welcoming, and most importantly the food is SO delicious. You get with every entree free soup (we had lentil), fresh naan from their tandoors, chopped salad, rice and the kabobs! For chicken, try the kabob or the kofta (we loved the kofta)and for lamb try the lamb kabob or the lamb chops, both are amazing.
5 stars! Can't wait to go back! Posted on June 26, 2010 |

★★★★☆ I was there tonight and I thought the visit was an excellent one.
I was there by myself but was never ignored. The food was really tasty (I ordered murgh kabob, cooked to perfection and was really tender). The afghan bread was tasty
Service was good...unfortunately, they do not take AMEX but that's not the end of the world. Posted on June 22, 2010 |

★★★★★ Went here with a couple of my friends a few months back and we completely love this place. Two of us order the lamb shanks and they were cooked to perfection, with the meat falling right off the bones. The different kinds of rice that accompanied the main dishes were also flavored very nicely. This is by far the best Afghan food that I have had. Posted on June 8, 2010 |

|
★★★★☆ My wife is from a region in Pakistan that is influenced by Afghan culture and she absolutely loved this place. The decor is exquisite! The waitress was really nice. I personally thought that the lamb chops could be better. The issue I had with them I addressed with the waitress after we left and she was very understanding and stated that she would address the situation with the chef. I was stuffed beyond belief. Overall, if I were to grade my visit, I would give it an A-. Well done with the renovations! Posted on March 2, 2010 |

★★★★★ After reading the reviews on here.. we decided to give this restaurant a try and we LOVED it!!
The food, ambiance, service were excellent and the decor and everything else was just absolutely amazing!
The staff and owner are very hospitable; making sure every need is catered to. The soup, bread & salad tasted amazing (i think we just filled up on those) and if your going there for the first time.. make sure you order their lamb kabob and chicken kofta kabob! Totally to die for! The meat tasted awesome.. no smell and it was grilled to perfection -
cant wait to go back insha'Allah!!!! Posted on January 18, 2010 |

★★★★★ We had a large family dinner here the night before our wedding. 25 people and mashallah everyone was just blown away by the fantastic food and wonderful environment. They are still talking about how good the food was. Even for such a large group, everything was hot, cooked to perfection. Each dish had delicate and unusual flavors and was seasoned beautifully. The kabobs were all fantastic, and the appetizers were incredible, especially the squash dumplings! And the varieties of rice were so creative, beautiful, and delicious. Even the bread and cucumber salad were incredibly good - we could happily have made a meal just from that. Plus the staff were so welcoming and friendly, with a very professionally run establishment. Such an enjoyable evening. Jazak Allah al khayr to the Silk Road staff! Posted on August 25, 2009 |

★★★★★ the food is really good here. the lamb is incredibly flavorful (doesnt smell) and the chicken is delicious. the owner and his family run the restaurant, so you know that it is definitely authentic. the place is nice, but its always busy so call ahead. otherwise, great naan, great food, will definitely be going back Posted on July 8, 2009 |

★★★★★ this place is really nice....the staff is very welcoming and the food is really good! not many afghani restaurants in central jersey, but this place makes up for that with its delicious food! Posted on January 9, 2009 |

|
★★★★★ best food in the area, great kabobs (lamb is delicious). naan right from the tandoor in the kitchen, good shepard salad (comes with the dinner! dont have to pay to get separately!), afghan food is definitely superior to other middle eastern food that ive had, and the place is classically beautiful. good atmosphere, awesome food, new favorite and will definitely be back. ★★★★★ This is an excellent restaurant that I would definitely reccommend trying. If you think you wouldn't be a fan of Afghani food, you would be surprised. The bread is delicious and plentiful, the salad and rice are always fresh and the kabobs are always hot and tasty. The service is very good, you will not be disappointed. Posted on August 11, 2008 |

★★★★★ Salaam, first off i want to say that I am thank full to Allah that i have enough money to put food in my belly as well as my families bellies. Next i want to say that it is very hard to find a restaurant, let alone a halal one that demands perfection and love for the food that comes out to customers as well as the service and ambiance. The owner and his family are very welcoming,i would recommend the Lamb Chops with the Ladam Palaw. The Dumplings are amazing. The prices are reasonable since we as a nation are in a recession, compared to other fully functional restaurants with their prices, The Silk Road makes up for the kabob, salad, rice and freshly baked bread . The lamb was so good that it was as if it melted in my mouth and the portions were so much that i had to take some home for a mid night snack! Reservations are highly recommended since its a small restaurant, there is a small area to pray, everything is HALAL. Posted on August 9, 2008 |

★★★★★ The food is very tasty, the restaurant and the staff are very polite. The environment is so welcoming once you step inside, that you just don't want to leave. Posted on August 8, 2008 |

★★★★★ The food is really good at this place, I've been to many afghani restaurants in the past and by far this place was the best. Besides the food, the place is really nice, and the service is amazing. The workers make you feel at home, and every time I've been I was never disappointed. Posted on July 25, 2008 |

★★☆☆☆ The Place is Beautiful the owner is really nice. But for the price the quality and the quantity of food really lack. The food is just ok. I would give it 3 stars but since the price is so expensive I had to give it 2. Posted on July 11, 2008 |

|
★☆☆☆☆ We went there yesterday and were quiet dissapointed, as the prices were very high the quantity was pretty small and the lamb smelled. At least when you are paying so much you expect good food but i am sure that i will never go to this restaurant again. Posted on April 28, 2008 |

|
★★★★★ Its a family owned place and The owner is very hospitable and gracious, the food was good, but portions were small, the sheri chi was regular Pakistani chi, and the rice was not basmati, over all the place is 5 stars, the restroom is piece of art Posted on September 22, 2007 |
|
|
★★★★★ The food and the service were excellent. The owner is gracious and aims to please. Making a reservation is recommended. Posted on June 23, 2007 |

|
★★★★★ We love the food at this restaurant especially the lamb and the veggie dishes. The only complaint is the pricing is bit expensive, some things do not come with bread or salad, dumpling and salad main dishes are expensive and yet do not come with bread. Whoever heard of eating a salad main without bread? Posted on February 17, 2007 |
|
|
★★★★★ we discovered silk road a while ago and i am surprised that not many ppl in muslim community know abt this place.Food is good, service is excellent (although its best to call in advance and get a reservation made) & since they cook everything from scratch, it takes 25 minutes for ur order to materialize on the table.....extremely clean-cum-decorated bathroom that it feels like u r in somebody's living room! we frequent this place atleast once every month....and i highly recommend the chai! ★★★★★ Bismillah.
Masha'Allah the food at this afghan place is very good. I live in basking ridge about 5 minutes away from this town and there are virtually no halal restaurants. The family that owns the place are very kind and go out of their way to make the muslim customers feel comfortable. The place is small but the owner told us of some plans to expand in the next couple of months insha'Allah but reservations are a must because of the size of the place. The prices are moderate. Not cheap because it is a fine dining place in a very rich town, but cheap enough for families and working people. I found the portions to be a little too big for one person so sharing is a might. I recommend the chicken kabobs and any of the very tender lamb choices. Overall a wonderful experience, and my family and I will be back. Posted on December 16, 2006 |
|
|
★★★★☆ Good halal food. Expensive, VERY expensive. Small portions, very small place. Posted on December 9, 2006 |
|
|
★★★★★ This place deserves 5 stars. One of the best halal restaurants in North america. the ecperience is unmatchable. Place is a hit with locals and stays busy so make a reservation before you go. Dont forget to try Lamb Chops. Posted on November 9, 2006 |
|
|
★★★★☆ Food is excellent. Only criticism is that they are stingy with bread. I ordered Mediterranean Salad for 8.99 and Mantu Entree at 13.99 for 22.98 and they wouldnt give me a piece of bread. They wanted to charge me 1.99 more. Posted on November 5, 2006 |

★★★★★ Owner is very nice and friendly, food is delicious, overall experience was excellent... Posted on August 16, 2006 |

★★★★★ This is one the best Afghan restaurant's i've ever been to. You can't go wrong with this place, the food is superb, as it's extremely flavorful and yet not spicy. The traditional Afghan setting is very pleasant and cozy, and I recommend this place for ANY occasion for any time!! I must say the owner and the staff is also very hospitable. If you want to enjoy an excellent meal at the best value, would recommend going for the lunch specials. you cant go wrong! Posted on February 10, 2006 |

★★★★★ masha'allah the food is very fresh, the chicken and lamb kababs are amazingly tender and flavorful. the afghan salads are excellent and the service was excellent. the owner is very cordial and muslim, definitely worth a visit Posted on December 23, 2004 |

|
★★★★☆ my recent lunch experience was excellent, the chicken was tender and well marianated, their brown rice was excellent and flavorfull, and the bread was excellent, only problem they are a bit expensive even for their lunch special and there serving size is small but the quality is excellent
I did also try the lamb korma(? spelling?) which basically tasted like it had been sitting out too long
overall since the quality is great when the make things fresh, I will go back, service is variable the owner is really attentive but the wait staff can vary from great to sub-par Posted on December 19, 2004 |
|
|
★★★★☆ The owner is very hospitable and gracious. The food is well done, with the environs being a traditional Afghan setting. Definitely worth a visit, as it is a nice break from the typical cuisine available in our area. Posted on October 31, 2004 |
