★☆☆☆☆ I went to this restaurant for the first and the last time. You feel as if you are entering into Akbar's darbar when you enter the restaurant, ambiance inside is good too. Good feeling ends here. Food is terrible, serving size is small and its super expensive. One naan for USD 4 and 18% gratuity is pre-added. None of the food items we request had a eatable taste. Halal status is also doubtful and they do serve alcohol too. Posted on June 3, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ Will never go back to this place, your paying for the decor because the quality of the food is not worth paying for. Curry and dishes were sweet rather then being spicy. Posted on July 17, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ My wife's family had been using Akbar to cater for many years under the premise that Akbar manager said was completely halaal food. This time we wanted further halaal confirmation, which told us that that ONLY its goat meat was halaal; it you want to eat Zabihah Akbar is certainly not the place despite what they say; otherwise ask for an invoice. ★★★★☆ Great ambience. Grand structure. Looks like an updcale hotel from the inside. Food quality is good but more of the Indian style than typical Pakistani variety. Somewhat pricy. Posted on July 13, 2008 |

★★☆☆☆ I had eaten there before but seeing all the statues I started having doubts whether the food is even halal. So, before going again, I called them to ask them if they served zabihah. The person I was speaking to didn't understand the term, and gave the phone to someone else who told me that they served halal. It still felt weird, and I called right back and asked if they served pork and they said yes. So, for them to serve pork, and alcohol, and with statues all around..I just dont know why they promote this place as halal or on this site. Plus, NJ has lots better places to eat out. One doesnt miss out on anything for not going to this place... except for well,.. maybe the hindu statues which are all over the place. Posted on October 10, 2003 |

★☆☆☆☆ This place calimed to be halal but i have my doubts and I walked out as soon as i saw alcohal and all the statues. One more thing which is common here with Shalimar and may be other resturants that all of the food is prep by non-Muslims, so even if the meat is halal, it is rendered Najis and unacceptable for Muslims to eat. Not only it should be owned by Muslim but it should also be prepared by Muslims and no other harram must be served for me to even consider it for window shopping!! Posted on February 21, 2003 |

★★☆☆☆ I've HAD to eat here a few times and everytime I did not like the food. I'm NOT a picky person but Akbar could do alot better. Food was so-so...plus with alcohol being served at the bar and Hindu gods all around you....u get the point? Posted on November 9, 2002 |

★★☆☆☆ I took my family out to eat here. Parking was horrendous, we had to park almost 2 blocks away, thenw e had to walk through hoards of people to get to the restaurant because it also host wedding halls. A big Hindu god greeted us on the way - this is where my doubts began. The restaurant is mainly South Asian cuisine, the ambience is that of the Moghul era. They claim the meat is halal but I have my doubts. They also serve alcohol. The service was courteous though and they handed out balloons to all the kids. The food was decent but again the alcohol and hindu god casted doubts as to whether or not this place was legit. Posted on August 23, 2002 |
