About Maiwand Kabob

Maiwand Kabob opened in the fall of 1999 on a quiet corner in the heart of Columbia, Maryland. As Columbia's very first Afghan restaurant, it was envisioned as a quaint, family-owned eatery with one simple goal: to provide generous portions of fresh Afghan food at moderate prices. Since our modest beginnings, Maiwand Kabob has slowly and thoughtfully expanded to four locations to better serve and accommodate our customers. Maiwand Kabob has been consistently honored for its great taste and value. We have been recognized in the Baltimore Sun and the Washington Post and have been awarded the "best cheap eat" in Howard county. We proudly offer a great variety of authentic Afghan dishes. From our succulent kabobs to our tandoori bread and mouth-watering rice pudding, we are sure to satisfy even the most sophisticated palate. We believe in freshness and authenticity, and as such, our wide selection of tender kabobs are marinated daily in a variety of traditional spices and seasonings. Cooked to order, our food is prepared fresh from scratch using only the finest quality ingredients. We offer daily lunch specials, dine-in, take-out, and catering for any occasion. We will be delighted to cater your next dinner or event!

Had takeout from this place and it was busy till closing. Their chain of restaurants are all good and consistent quality. All of their kabob platters are extremely well made. Hummus is really really good and I am a little particular with that. This is a great place to go to. They did have a couple of missing items that night but again I know that is impossible to keep everything stocked till end of the night.

This place never have their daily specials....always out! Why advertise daily specials if you never have it. I guess this a strategy to bring people in. Their other items on the menu is ok nothing specials!

Maiwand to me is the gold standard of halal food in all of America. Quality of food is unbeatable. I have lived in Maryland, Chicago, and Florida and visited halal restaurants all over the east coast and Detroit and Maiwand Kabob\'s hold on halal food supremacy remains unchallenged. I have taken multiple guests from various ethnic backgrounds without telling them about Maiwand in advance, and whenever they started eating the lambchops it would almost be as if they had a food epiphany. They would all, without exception, stop and admire the lambchops before proceeding to state they never in their life had lambchops that good. But the amazing thing is its not just the lambchops. Everything on the grill is top-notch, even their bowlani, mantu, and aushak appetizers are incredibly tasty. It also helps that the restaurants are clean and menus easy to navigate. Maiwand holds a special place in my family\'s memories.

I agree with the other reviewers, the place is a nice and clean with good food. Its small with a few tables, so it got crowded during dinner time. I found the Bolani to be bit oily, but Lamb and Kofta platter was delicious. Disappionted they were out of the daily special and Mantu.

This restaurant serves some of the best grilled food I've ever had. The chicken tikka and the lamb chops are excellent. The salad is always fresh and the vegetable sides are really good. Best of all is the bread. It is seriously good bread. The owners are very nice and have very good quality control. When the owners are not there, the quality drops quite a bit, which is unfortunate. The place is always busy. Its located in a nice place in Columbia, MD. I highly recommend this place.

Went here for dinner a few nights ago. The food was very good. We had a large party in our group, so we ordered a variety of different plates. Most notable was the Chicken and Ground Beef (Kofta) Kabab. Served with pipng hot and fresh rice and naan. Columbia, MD is very far from home, however, I will gladly return next time I'm up in the area. I recommend this place.

The chicken wraps, rather all the chicken dishes, at Maiwand are really good. The kids love them. All the appetizers are pretty good too. The chick pea dish, the only one my vegetarian hubby would consider ordering, is pretty bland though. Their locations in Columbia and Arundel Mills seem to have the freshest food and fastest service. I have been disappointed with the doneness of the meat on several occasions @ Linthicum. I agree with other reviewers...their food prices have gone up quite a bit.

Excellent food, clean place (unlike most other Zabiha places) - unfortunately last time we went the food was a little on the rarer side - i've found the food is best on the weekends, and above average on week days

We went to the newly opened branch in Glen Burnie, near Arundel Mills Mall. The food was excellent. Ordered the Chicken tikka kabob and Kofta Kabob. The naans alone are worth the trip. The portions were really good. The place is extremely clean, which is refreshing considering most Muslim establishments overlook that aspect of business. Parking is sufficient, located in an upscale and safe complex. Overall worthwhile experience.

Excellent food. Freshly baked nan's in an authentic oven. Meat is cooked just right. Busy place ensures that the food is always fresh. Lamb and Kafta kabob are superb.

During our stay in Columbia, we went there few times. Their Naan and Kabobs are very good. The place is clean and the service, considering it is a self serve type of establishment, is good. Every thing is made fresh which is a good and rare thing among Halal establishments. Their choices, however, are limited especially considering the number of Buffet places in the surrounding areas.

Maiwand Kabob is an Excellent resteraunt with plenty of parking located in a very clean shopping plaza. I ordered the goat and chicken kabobs and they were tasty and well done. Also I have tried their chicken tikka which is very good. Prices are not too bad since the portions are huge. Overall its a great halal place to eat afghan food.

I frequently dine at Maiwand and am amazed at these reviews --no one has mentioned the pumpkin here. The eggplant is stunning also, the naan is unparalleled the whole menu is delicious and the daily specials are great -- you absolutely can't do better and the price -- well where else can you eat this inexpensively let alone this well!

Maiwand Kabob's food is incredible! My husband and I frequent the restaurant at least once every week. The kabobs and naans are made fresh in front of you and their green secret sauce is the best! I always order the lamb kabob or the kofta kabob. Make the effort to visit this restaurant--you will not regret it!

While I admit I miss arabic food, the food at Maiwand is truly delicious. I found the kofta kabob at Maiwand to be the best that I've had at a restaurant in the Baltimore area. The eggplant is also an excellent side dish.

I recommend this place for a nice dinner. Prices are moderate ($7 to $9 for a dinner dish). Food is relatively mild (not spicey) and quite flavourful. And it tastes fresh! The naan (bread) they serve is above average, as are most of their side dishes.

Assalaamualaikum, i just wanted to say that this was my first but not last visit to Maiwand Kabob. The food was very tasty and mouth watering, i especially luv the salmon and lambchops (chopaan). Not to forget, the lamb and chix kabobs are quiet fascinating. My family and i were very impressed with the service and upscale food.
