About Abu Omar Halal

In 2011, Abu Omar (owner and founder of Abu Omar Halal) opened Houston's first halal food truck, then known as Abu Omar Taco. As luck would have it, the Arabic version of our signage at the time read only 'Abu Omar Halal (not taco)' and the name soon stuck! In those early days, our truck served mostly halal tacos, but we quickly discovered that our chicken shawarma was a customer favorite. Since then, we have focused almost entirely on Mediterranean classics, including our specialty shawarma.
